Practical Lab

1. Food and Beverage Production: The department is fully equipped with 2 kitchens namely
Basic Training Kitchen: It is equipped with 14 ranges, where first and second year students will receive their practical training in basic cookery like preparation of different types of Sauces, soups and stocks. It is equipped with basic tools and equipments and the required ingredients to facilitate the cooking of basic food courses both Indian & Continental Cuisine.
Advanced Training Kitchen. It also supports a bakery and all other large equipment that meet the Industry Requirements. The third & final year students use these facilities to specialize in the respective cuisine of their choice. Kitchens are fully equipped with High Pressure Burners, Cold Storage Refrigerators, advanced ovens, Salamanders and other small equipments.

2. Food and Beverage Service: The food prepared by the students will be served in the training restaurant that is attached to the kitchen. The students are trained in various aspects like table service, table etiquettes, bar operations, wine and alcohol service, gueridon service etc. This enables the student to be on par with the industry requirements.

3. Accomodation Operations: The Department have a 16 room Training Hotel to train the students to operate and manage the front desk and hosekeeping responsibilities.

4. Event Management: The facilities includes fully air-conditioned auditorium, dining areas, amphitheatre, lawn, grounds for various sports and games such as cricket, football, basketball, volleyball, indoor games facilities etc.

5. Entrepreneurship development: The department offers a 24 hours coffeeshop to provide entrepreneurship awareness among students.

Student Activity

Onam

This year the Onam celebrations was held with immense grandeur. The day began with a ‘Pookalam’ (floral Carpet) competition. The day started with an inauguration ceremony followed by games organized to entertain the crowd. The event also hosted a lucky draw titled ‘Onam Lucky Bonanza’ which enabled many of the students to win exciting prizes. The last but the most awaited event of the day was the ‘Onam Sadya’. The guest felt the experience of savoring the spread of Kerala cuisine and the sweet paysam left them licking their fingers.

ZEAL ( Kreeda & Invaders)

ZEAL – the only inter college sports & technical fest for hotel management students, began all with a bang. It is our dream to make ZEAL an international event one day but, ‘a journey of thousand miles begins with a single step’.
This is the seventh consecutive year that we at PESIHM are hosting this fest much bigger and better than ever before. The number of participating colleges rising from 8 to 12 and the number of participants doubling to 600 students.

Kreeda – The three days sports fest started on 21st of febuary, with an oath taking ceremony and Mr. Vinay, sports Director, PESIT, declared the sports meet open. The participating colleges clashed to grab the over all trophy. All the nail biting, final matches were scheduled on23rd of febuary.

Invaders. – Technical fest was organized for all Hotel Management Students from Karnataka. A tough competition prevailed between the MS R Hotel Management and the host PES Institute of Hotel Management. The over all trophy was won by the Army Institute of Hotel Management. The celebration ended with great pomp and the participants bid adieu to each other with mixed emotions awaiting the ZEAL14.

Blood Donation:

One day blood donation and pledging of eyes camp was organized in co ordination with Lions Club, Bangalore Central, Manipal Hospital , Victoria Hospital and Narayana Nethralaya.

The Principal of PESIHM, Mrs. Sunita Srinivasan, who has organized the camp says, “Such camps are conducted regularly at PESIHM with the aim of making our students more socially aware and responsible and contribution to the community.

YOKOROBI:

Oriental Flower arrangement workshop by Ikebana Master Rekha Jaganmohan. The event was open for participation to final year Hotel Management students & faculty of Hotel Management Colleges. The objective was to demystify the concepts of Ikebana & how Ikebana arrangements could be made in a Hotel. The event concluded with a flower arrangement competition which saw faculty and students create some really innovative free style arrangements. A sovereign containing research papers on ‘ floristry – an enchanting art & enduring career was also released’.

Guest Lecture :

Guest lecture was give by Mr. Sumantha, from Soft Brands addressing the whole college about use of Computer Technology in Hotel Industry.

Soft skill Training :

Soft skill training was provided to final year students by Mrs. Kausar Khan from PROTOCOL, Bangalore. Students were trained fro one month which covered – Pre-placement training, Grooming, Presentation skills, Public speaking & Mock interview.

Entrepreneurship Activity :

The College places great emphasis on entrepreneurship in its studies .As entrepreneurship is encouraged; graduates of this course are also prepared to start their own businesses.
